In An Emergency: DIAL 911

Dial 911 when you have an emergency. An emergency is an event that you believe requires or may require immediate action to prevent injury or loss of life or property. The famous 'cat in a tree' is not an emergency. Examples of actual fire-related emergencies include:

• Actual fire, or suspicion of a fire
• Vehicle accident
• Odor of smoke, gas or other chemical
• Carbon Monoxide alarm sounding

911 service in our response area is answered by Lancaster County-Wide Communications, where specially trained personnel will ask you a series of questions, including:

• Where are you?
• What is the problem?
• Who are you?
• What is the phone number from which you are calling?

911 personnel must ask these questions to ensure the proper units are sent to assist you. For additional information about Lancaster's 911 center, see the Lancaster County-Wide Communications web site.

In the event 911 service is not working due to a phone company problem, our personnel respond to our station to 'stand-by'. In these situations, if you have an emergency, contact your local police department or fire department. In the event your phone is not working, you may need to drive to your local police or fire department to report an emergency.

This is the NON-EMERGENCY phone number for Fire and Medical calls at Lancaster County-Wide Communications. The personnel there will contact a chief officer or dispatch units from our station to respond to your location.
