An emergency is an event that you believe requires or may require immediate action to prevent injury or loss of life or property. The famous 'cat in a tree' is not an emergency. Examples of actual fire-related emergencies include:
911 service in our response area is answered by Lancaster County-Wide Communications, where specially trained personnel will ask you a series of questions, including:
911 personnel must ask these questions to ensure the proper units are sent to assist you. For additional information about Lancaster's 911 center, see the Lancaster County-Wide Communications web site. In the event 911 service is not working due to a phone company problem, our personnel respond to our station to 'stand-by'. In these situations, if you have an emergency, contact your local police department or fire department. In the event your phone is not working, you may need to drive to your local police or fire department to report an emergency. If you need our assistance or services, but do not have an emergency (as defined above): Dial 717-664-1190 or 800-691-FIRE (3473). This is the NON-EMERGENCY phone number for Fire and Medical calls at Lancaster County-Wide Communications.
